Nature’s Hour

Who knew that lungs were important?
We talk of the heart and the brain;
But when COVID comes saying hello,
Breathlessness brings classic pain.

I have met gasps in anxiety,
Allergies and spasms are usual shits;
But! COVID is different altogether!
It brings into lungs dangerous fits!

Fevers rise, lungs collapse, breath stops;
You think it’ll pass in a week or two;
But that’s not exactly how this ball drops –
Newer strains are birthing to claim you!

Governments flounder under their weight!
Nations are rocked by their sheer power!
Nature has decided she has had enough!
She has decided that this will be her hour!

No One Learns

Seasons turn, turn, turn;
In bursts and years, life ages;
Regrets burn, burn, burn
And all of life rages.

Suns and moons stay and fade;
Leaves grow to become dust;
Everything breaks that once was made;
Nature does what nature must.

Feelings change, they alter.
Even though truth doesn’t lie,
It, too, can falter, falter,
And can quietly die.

Fear makes things cling to stay:
Do love, though it may not survive;
There is always night after day,
Do try to keep one alive.

Mothers hate sons in time,
A Son cannot be a Daughter,
What is yours cannot be mine,
Not tears, not laughter.

No one learns, learns, learns,
You think you can change it all,
This thought yearns, yearns, yearns,
As faith’s empires fall.

Saving

I couldn’t save myself,
I couldn’t even try,
When all suns turned dark
All the waters ran dry.

There were no bird songs,
Or angels on clouds;
Just a press of fury,
In sexual crowds.

I tried hard to dance
To help with the pain,
Of not fitting in,
Of braving the disdain.

I tried many things;
Each different from the past;
I tried saving each,
I tried to make them last.

But, you see, I am jaded,
And I know Hope as a liar,
I know the lampoons of Fate,
I know Ambition’s mire.

I can’t weep anymore:
Age has taken all my tears;
But I wish it had left me one
And taken instead my fears.

I know people are cruel,
For I am people, too,
And Gadgets have not helped,
After Nature laughed and withdrew.

I can’t save myself now,
It is too late to try
And why even bother, I ask,
When it all has to die?
