I Wish

I used to wish for many things.
I wished for a dog I could raise.
I wished to meet Superman.
I wished for my father’s praise…

I wished people I love wouldn’t leave;
I wished for love and laughter…
I once believed in fairy tales
And a happily ever after.

I wished, and I wished,
And slowly, I grew,
And woefully realised
All wishes do not come true.

And, if they did,
They brought deception,
For I thought I’d be happy
At their reception.

So I wish now to be wise;
But then I set this wish on you;
A gentle wish that I
Not miss us more than you.

If the Moon Loved Me

If the moon loved me,
He would be jealous of you;
And would keep you wanting,
Until you proved to be true.

If the moon loved me,
He would let me dream;
He would fling the tides,
And let them scream.

If the moon loved me,
I’d rule every night,
Fly with the dark,
Away from the light.

If the moon loved me,
I’d learn how to cope,
With shadows and fear,
With death and with hope.

Poet

I may be a poet –
I think it must be true;
Because I write in rhyme;
When I think of you.

It’s simple and it’s plain
That love makes lyrics flow;
I’ve read poets in love
And think it must be so.

But you don’t like to write,
Or read my contrived rhyme –
So then are you in love?
Or am I wasting time?

Or maybe I am bad,
In words and loving you?
I think I am a poet –
But now don’t know what’s true
?
