Sometimes

Sometimes the stars refuse to shine

And sometimes you see

There is no hope in the divine.

Sometimes the night is just a night,

With a pale sunset,

But no resurrecting light.

Sometimes life seems morbidly dark,

The moon robs each dream,

Every inspiring spark.

Sometimes all love does is pine

And though we try hard

We find no mercy in time.

Sometimes sadness bursts anew

And feelings tangle,

And faithless strength holds me to you.

Sometimes my words find no rhymes

So I hold despair and you close

And I go on writing – sometimes.

Sadness Remembers

I remember when I was bullied –

I remember when I am sad –

I know they are best left alone –

Those times when I was treated bad –

But I remember them now and think –

Of how things would have, could have been –

If I had the friends I have now –

What different hopes I might have seen –

How things would, could, may have been –

If I had these friends by my side –

I would not have felt so alone –

My feelings wouldn’t have had to hide –

But – but these friends are around now –

And I have a safer harbour –

To guide this derelict into –

When sadness makes me remember.

A Million Shades of Grey

Give up your expectations
and give in to your fate.
What is meant to be will be;
if it’s soon, it’s soon,
and if it’s late, it’s late.

Let go of that anger
I know its easier said than done –
For what use is the pain
that ends with a smoking gun?

Try and choose the quieter road
and do what should be done,
Then leave the rest to destiny;
all battles do not need to be won.

Give up your expectations –
that is the best, possible way
to learn life isn’t black or white;
it has blue and green and red
and a million shades of grey.
