Battles In Rhyme

Poetry…(rhymes)
Is all I write
Feels like a waste of time

Time that has been kind
(In hindsight –
I’ve always looked behind)

Through all battles fought
Life has cheated
Me of what I once sought.

This thought will pass.
Love is me.
Its grief does not last.

But a violence fills me
I rage against the night
Silently.

Life will continue
to use love’s heart
Despite these poetic lessons
That chronicle
its tearing apart.

Eclipse

The days fly by,
Like seasons do;
I’m forgotten;
But alive, too.

Few days are good;
Most still are bad;
Some hours bring smiles;
Most keep me sad.

As the days go,
I let them, one
By one, and blur
The moon and the sun.

I put on smiles,
As night takes day;
And like the night,
They do not stay.

So I live them,
Like pills and sleep,
Like dreams I dream;
But cannot keep.

Stand

When you loved me,
Against us, the world could be,
For we prevailed
And faced it, valiantly.

Now you have gone.
The world lashes, with jibes and jeers –
And I stand yet –
Despite your loss and all my tears.
