Do Not Touch Me

Don’t touch me,
If you do not want to.
I am more than
My love for you.
It may be full,
It can be blind,
It is what elsewhere
You will never find!

I am beautiful
And I am kind;
I have a heart;
I have a mind;
I am my body
And though it wants you –
Do not touch me,
If you do not want to.

  1. I imagine this might not have been the purpose of your poem, but I think part of the reason a person violates consent is because rejection of a certain act by another person affects them too much.

    Your poem has a calm sense of self-respect and self-assuredness about it that is exactly the solution to that. Remembering you are more than your love for another person means that you don’t need to violate their consent, as you’ve so gracefully shown and written.

    And in general, I think this poem contains many elements of a healthy relationship. Respect for another person as well as respect for yourself.
