Beware

She had warned me of fate;
But I ascribed it to hate;
So I neglected her view;
And fought her with words, too.

We are all fools in love –
But when push comes to shove,
And when death comes calling,
Then the heart is done falling.

Since promises lie broken,
You throw away each token –
While her words hang in the air:
“Most forget love, beware.”

Birthday 2021

Nothing to celebrate,
Except that I didn’t die.
Covid nearly got me;
Pneumonia did try.

I’m not very happy
And i’m not very sad,
If I just breathe easy,
I’ll feel a tad less bad.

I’m a mix of feeling:
Angry, grieving, insecure;
But of one fact I’m sure,
I have learnt to endure.

Time does not bring relief; you all have lied
Who told me time would ease me of my pain!
I miss him in the weeping of the rain;
I want him at the shrinking of the tide;
The old snows melt from every mountain-side,
And last year’s leaves are smoke in every lane;
But last year’s bitter loving must remain.
